Yin Yi 银亿 established in Ningbo buys Punch Powertrain.

Yin Yi 银亿 literally means 'Silver Hundred Million'.

In ancient China silver 'blocks/units' were used for financial transactions. The word for 'bank' in Chinese today is Yinhang 银行' which means 'row of silver'. 'Yin 银' is thus associated with 'money' and 'financial transactions'. 

'Yi 亿' is symbolic. The largest number in Chinese is 10.000 or 万. It symbolizes 'a lot', 'endless'. 'Long Live the People's Republic of China' sounds in Chinese like 'ten thousand times ten thousand years for the People's Republic of China' 中华人民共和国万万岁. The character Yi 亿 means 'ten thousand times ten thousand 万万' and is used symbolically only.

I visited the Hakka Houses in Fujian Yongding 8 years ago. In these huge circular buildings with several wooden floors constructed inside the ancestor hall at the center is the core, like a symbolically beating heart of the clan.

The houses and the whole area were quite deserted at the time. From the hundreds of family members that used to occupy the clan houses only few people were still there. Most of them had migrated to places outside of China. I could peacefully roam around the area then, from one Hakka house to another,  have little chats and interviews with local inhabitants, who were happy to share their family stories.

Nowadays the houses are officially promoted as tourist attraction. An 'entrance gate' has been erected in front of the 'village', where you now have to pay an entrance fee and visit the houses together with thousands of Chinese tourists. With some family members still living inside of them, their family life has gone fully public. I wonder what ancestors think about sharing their clan houses with thousands of loud visitors every day.
